Why Google My Business Posts Help Your Business
Google My Business Posts are a social feed/mini blog where you can publish updates about your business. Most importantly Google Posts are an important ranking factor for your Google My Business (GMB) ranking. This is because Google believes it is important that a business keeps its customers updated about activity within the business. They also like to see regular activity on your GMB listing.
A post generally contains an image/video, text and link. An example of which can be seen below.
They should be used to promote business information and updates, offers, highlight products, local events, and much more.
Originally Google Posts were only visible for a short period of time, but now they are visible for 6 months.
Because Google Posts are an important ranking factor and although it may seem overkill we would recommend posting at least once a week and if you can do more then even better.
It’s all about Engagement
As with all social media the key is to develop engagement with current and potential customers it is not to sell…this comes later as generate more and more engagement.
What is engagement
There are many ways of getting engagement but one of the best ways is through education…you must not see social media as advertising.
The most notable types of engagements are:
- Link click a link in the post
- A comment written about the post
- Shares to followers
- Likes
- Calls
- Direct messages to the business owner
The more engagement you have with any social media content the platform, in this case Google, will rank your listing higher on Google My Business. With this in mind it is important you write posts that attract (heading and image/video) and engage (copy and offer).
Google wants you to provide a mix of content in your Google Posts such as:
- Information
- Special offers
- Upcoming events
- Welcome messages
- Current events and news about your business
